Wanting to write interesting fiction and being able to do so are, for me, unrelated issues. While I love reading history more than fiction I don't have enough in-depth knowledge to attempt writing anything with a historical bent. Meanwhile the fiction I've tried to write is not very good. And no one really wants my satirical essays. So it goes.

I'm in a very, very similar boat w/r/t trying to let go of a project that doesn't seem to be going anywhere right now. (I'm also on Fiction Fail #2, at least, maybe 3, depending on how you count.) I haven't been able to clear the metaphorical or literal decks, though, mostly because there's nothing new nibbling at the edges of my brain. Mostly, it's blank. Last time this happened, it was years before I found a new thread to pick up. It's hard. I hope you can weave your useful garment!

Have you listened to or read Raskin's Newbery acceptance speech? https://alair.ala.org/handle/11213/8020 You can Open an mp3. 17 min. She mentions Amy Kellman. The book is dedicated to her daughters. Amy was the Coordinator of Children's Services at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh for many years. She is on LinkedIn. I was there from 1988 to 2006. I got my library degree in 1973 so I 'met' Raskin's books as an adult and loved them and loved the Pittsburgh connections once I was there.
