Once more into the Many Things

Art for the Peggy Orenstein piece I’ve linked below is by Chelsea Cardinal. I’m certain there are folks on Ravelry writing this pattern up even as I type.
  • Get ‘em, Peggy.

  • In addition to their uteruses being a source of consternation, women’s faces are terrifying and their upper arms to be regulated.

  • If you are the right kind of nerd, you might really dig transcribing records from the National Archives. Currently, I’m transcribing “Correspondence Relating to Reindeer Herds in Alaska” whenever the world becomes too much.

  • I am here for the gelatin renaissance.

  • I am also here for the non-alcoholic drinks for adults renaissance.

    1

Case in point: this delightful something or other from the Gilded Unicorn in Spokane, Washington. It’s nice to hang out a bar, have the ‘tender take care of you, and not have to stumble back to the hotel with a pounding headache.
  • If you are also of a certain age, you also likely have a visceral response to these book covers.

  • “Nobody does tequila shots in a manor.”

  • The most recent If Books Could Kill podcast is about Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus and hoooo, boy. There is some shit in there. If you are short on time, the last 15 minutes are where the rebuttals to the book are and they are more than worth the time, if only because you will learn about “Tactical Misunderstanding,”

    2
which I used to teach when I communications.

  • Maybe pancakes are what I need to get through the rest of our dreary mid-winter?

  • I don’t really have much to say about Madoff: the Monster of Wall Street other than a) it’s a very well-made doc that takes some chances when it comes to telling this story that we already know the outlines of

    3
and b) all of the regulatory agencies and J.P. Morgan banks were complicit and all of those motherfuckers should be in jail.

  • The Miss Universe costumes. 10/10. No notes.

1

Related-ish: I had this same question about Fireball at the Sheetz/Wawa/Cumby’s.

2

The money quote: ‘… some “misunderstandings” are tactical rather than real. Pretending not to understand what someone wants you to do is one way to avoid doing it. This may be what is really going on when a man claims not to have recognized a woman’s “Could you empty the trash?” or “The groceries are in the car” as a request. The “real” conflict is not about what was meant, it is about who is entitled to expect what services from whom.’

3

by “we” I mean “me.” I followed the story closely because I consider con men my beat and was still surprised.
