Adrienne, you are an amazing person and I am proud to call you my friend, even if we haven't seen each other in a couple of decades (or more). Please accept heartfelt hugs from the three of us here in Austin. I am very glad you live in a fairly progressive state that supports all people.

Texas has got to be one of the hardest states to live in if you are not 100% straight (and if we are honest, who is?). We are staying here because we hope that eventually, our votes will be counted and seen and we will outnumber those who want to move us back to the middle ages.

My 31-year-old is gender fluid and goes back and forth between v girly and v boi, and it's funny, because they grew up with knowing that some of our friends were transitioned. But I can see how much clearer I was with "Okay! Pick a gender and stick it!"

I cannot even believe the question your relative posed. It makes me hopeful though- just a teeny bit- that the relative thought to ask you about this.

Holding hope that one day all this hatred disappears. 🙏

I did not know you had a trans child; my heart goes out to you, even if you live in what is currently a "safe" state. I'm sick over the legislation that's been introduced and I hate every bit of it for my trans friends and my friends with trans kids. It's hard to even know what to say without word-vomiting all over the place, so thank you for writing this so masterfully.
